We played the new Hellboy time sucker for PS3 which reignited my inner couch potato and reminded me that my system is old and haggard. I eyeballed the Lost game but knew way too well that i'd stand there for hours trying to get Jack off of the island. All three of us laughed at the strangest thing we may have seen all weekend, the Sexual Orientation game...We couldn't play due to our confusion...

That night we saw Neil Gaiman read three short stories, answer questions and then read from his upcoming book release. As a Gaiman novice, I never really got too far past Stardust, Neverwhere, and American Gods but after hearing him I had a new found plan to read read read the Sandman chronicles. I started with a few choice Death graphic novels considering that i'd already gotten them from Crazy Mike for Christmas..joy! After Gaiman, we headed over to Teany for the first time that weekend for food and Cake...the best Damn Vegan Cake ever...check it out!
  Vegan Macadamia...yummy deliciousness...

                                              Day Two

Saturday is the big big day at the ComicCon, and so much so that they attempt to jam pack everything you want to see all at once so that you barely want to go to the bathroom for fear of missing something. We found out that the Big Hellboy 2 event including Guillermo Deltauro and Ron Perlman as guest speakers was at the same time as the Ghost Hunters talk with Jay and Grant. Now heres the thing, we definately chose the "hardest working plumbers since Mario and Luigi" over everything else. The other even was jam packed an hour before it even started and the Ghost Hunters were in a room that was lightly attended thanks to a talk by a British comic writer for Dan Dare (I had no idea what he was talking about, I just listened to his accent and day dreamed for half an hour meanwhile holding my spot second row for the Boys from Jersey).

The Ghost Hunters were great, and hosted by the ever handsome in person,
divine_debris

And right after that, we met up with new pal Kate and long time awesome lady,
elayna_m who held an awesome spot in line for us for the Venture Brothers chat. Much to the chagrin of the boyos behind us I might add but here's the deal...were the closest thing they were gonna get to cute girls being in their vicinity..i'm not pulling punches. Not to mention the fact that there was an amazing couple in front of Jeff and I who kept necking ( I think that's the correct term for it.) comics are for lovers. We were sure to make constant fun of them, loudly.
The chat was peppered with no really new information about the show, no show stopping revelations or anything good but still it was hillarious because the members of the group including Jackson Publick, Doc Hammer, and some of the voice talents were all constantly argueing amongst themselves. It's like sitting in an audience to watch them give the commentary from the Dvd's. It was great. Although the one guy on the panel who was the moderator, a) didn't do the best of jobs, b) handed out candy after I asked him reluctantly, and c) looks like the guy from Blues Traveler...nough' said.
Here's a photo of the cutest Monarch who fiance came dressed as Dr. Girlfriend as well and asked Doc to be the priest at their upcoming wedding.. high-larious.

After all that, we went back to Teany for the second time for more food and even more cake...here's Jeff's red velvet cake...

Then we rushed back to the hotel, the fabulous New Yorker to put up a very silly poster for a film called Wicked Lake in the bathroom, get changed and hurry back the convention area for a rockin' concert from Japan's TMF Revolution. He's tiny, svelt, and the most beautiful woman i've ever seen. He would interject the few Americanisms he could pronounce and it was the cutest thing i've ever seen. The American kids were looking to the Japanese kids for how to dance and react to his songs. The few they knew were the theme songs to particular Anime series. It was also a good chance to watch the most adorable women who traveled all the way from Hong Kong to see him. They told us that this was as close as they'd ever been able to get to him outside of Hong Kong. He was well worth every minute of his performance. And he loves the yankees ...so he's in.

And then the night rounded down with meeting up with Kate and elanya_m for drinks at the continental. We had a blasty blast, but I still felt way too overwhelmed...spread that mess out guys your killing me.

                                            Day Three

Sunday was a light day...we checked out the last of the dealers goods, and basically took photos of our favorite kids in costumes. We were a little annoyed that we missed the Nazis and Indiana Jones's dad combo who were headed to eat and on they're way out. But we made up for it with the best damn Wookie costume i've ever seen. And then it was off to Teany for a farewell piece of cake and on the road to home. It was sooo much fun, and well worth the day of recovery that was Monday.
I'll leave you with our favorite photos of kids in costumes.

                                                  <lj:music>the Slackers</lj:music>

It's interesting how a little sun can bring out the best in people. For at least the past four months, I've seen a constant barrage of angry looking, sneezing, sniffling Architecture students who keep harping on how the Professors must hate each and every individual one of them. But today, unseasonably warm with that faint smell of Spring in the air seems to be a sort of magical aphrodisiac that actually had them smiling. To the students credit, a strong amount of the faculty is German, Australian and British and they seem austere to me when they're buying something as ridiculous as batteries. Not to mention that a fair amount of the students here are from warmer climates and much like tropical fish they couldn't last here if they tried.

Syracuse is ,while I love it here dearly, a cold and ill tempered climate. It's the kind of place where we get snow in May, and everyone has a sense of apathy while wearing shorts in 30 degree weather. We're made of sterner stuff than the poor kids here that are from Puerto-Rico and Argentina, not to mention the students that are from Africa who have no idea what they've gotten themselves into. But today, it was different. There were smiling couples of kids on the front steps and packs of students in the cafeteria helping other students out...its was frigging dreamy. For once I didn't end up in line behind a complaining 18 year old who didn't get her latte with chocolate sprinkles like she asked, I got my black coffee with no incidences. Dare I say it, today has been a good day downtown.

All the cheery mood is a heaping helping of just what I needed, I always find myself slightly depressed after seeing the Slackers (who played in Ithaca on Thursday night). Now I realize, I have no reason to be sad, they're my favorite band besides Elbow (an odd coupling but sure), and I'm going to be in NYC to see Elbow in the next few weeks so really i'm getting everything that I should want. But it's the post show sadness from knowing that you probably won't get the chance to see them for a few more months to possibly a year again that always gets me. But at least they were selling new merchandise to keep me company for the remaining time and I have a new bottle of wine at home that is begging for me to drink it and play the albums ad infinitum tonight. It's also a rare occurence considering that I get the house to myself and can watch Dylan Moran, drink myself into a slight stupor and paint. Of which you'd think would be a dangerous combination.

I also have a need to finish the drawings for my tattoos this weekend, my good friend from Halo tattoos is asking why I haven't been around lately so i'm going to have to get my act together. I will say this though, I was going through my friends list on Myspace and do you ever find yourself wondering where the people that you had added that just aren't there now are at? I also have been denied by a few people that I was surprised by. If Morrissey will have me, I must be good people? right?

But despite people like Victor Rice, that guy from Interpol who looks like a Nazi
and Thom Yorke (i'm naming names that's right) i'm still determined to pull myself out of the friending gutter. So while I might be singing "Baby, where did our love go" i'll also be reminding all you denyers out there that , I still love Victor Rice's Version City album and will still remember fondly seeing him play at the Cooler and DJing at the Batcave, I still like Interpol (but I don't support Nazi's) and Thom..well your just mean, I'd like to think i'm good people.

Plus, The Slackers put on a good show despite the usual grumblings from members about things that could've been better. And unlike most bands they strive to be people oriented and to remember your name. I'm always awe struck, dumb founded and amazed that a band that is on tour a good portion of there lives are nothing short of a delight to chat with. It was good fun finding out that Glen Pine loves Ghost Hunters as muchas my sister and I do,

and chatting up the ever charming Marcus Geard before the show.
It never hurts to see Mr. Rugeirro and to get a good hug too. It isn't often in our cold little town that we get to see good looking men in suits, thanks guys!

Next week, we're off to the NYC comic convention which should be a blasty blast, considering that we might get to see some fairly big names and hopefully buy shiny new geeeky baubles. And then the next weekend the dreamy Elbow will most definately be the cincher to an already pretty fab year. I'll do my best to post a few new pics in a few days and to put up the new pictures of some of my new paintings that i've been working on. Once I get all my work down (tattoo wise) i'll post pictures of that as well...I just need to get out of this tiny but happy little store and drink up some creativity.

"Sweet Jesus, i'm on fire... she has the meanest darkest sighs..." (Elbow, an audience with the Pope)

L

Boredom has driven me online, and i'm finally stepping out of my cold weather hiatus. After finally accomplishing our annual Christmas with our lazy but Local pals i'm feeling somewhat less weight on my shoulders-y...except a big "so sorry" to Aelfscene...I still am sitting on her very patient presents from her Birthday..makes me a very bad friend. I'd fire myself but I need the cash. This week my lazy ass will be mailing out, I finally got my schedule back to the basics which gives me more monkey time to do just that...monkey aboot like I like. Have to take my puke ridden kitty to the vet on Monday which is ever the treat. I just knew that yesterday wasn't going to go so well after he greeted me with the morning breakfast, and of course after I'd already gotten dressed. They say the a pidgeon pooping on your head is full of luck, what do they say about puke on your new jumper? Mild distress?
So i'm downtown, in Armory Square (they call it historic but we know the truth) and i'm sitting in the worlds smallest store ever. While I could really use a cup of coffee, A) i've had a coffee ridden tricky tummy for the past weekend resulting in the wish to throw up on others, and B) it means I have to close up shop to get it which is just sad and pathetic in and of itself....so no coffee..just the saddest looking water bottle for now. But the threat of running into the bumbling Prof. and local favorite all around foreign kid, is ever so tempting. Think David Tennant meets, Architecture Proffessor..and you have an angry little man who smells good. He's a treat.
But beyond that , i'm happy to be out of the bowels of flu hell, and to have my room near to completion...I lack a rug. Otherwise, nothing very exciting in life right now, except that in May i'll be lining up for a tattoo appointment. Joy!
L

Thanks to all for the fantastic birthday faire, Ellie, Leah, and Mom and Dad did the usual over the top present a go go i've come to feel spoiled by every year. Beyond the fantastic new clothes, going shopping with the divine miss Leah, and getting cake and booze (with a side of twizzlers ...my favorite) I got a beautiful bouquet of not only aesthetically pleasing flowers, but also practical for later.

Lets talk food, um...i've eaten myself silly for the past two weeks on going. We had the most amazing Brownies from Ellie (http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/10/113/Twizzlers-Rainbow-Twists-19-Oz-18-Ea/221696), cupcakes that I had made for Leah's birthday from the "vegan Cupcakes take over the world" recipie, twizzlers (http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/10/113/Twizzlers-Rainbow-Twists-19-Oz-18-Ea/221696), two cakes, chocolate chip bread, cookies , thai food, olive garden, chineese...i'm on a side splitting, corset needing train (of which I did get one from Leah) where it derails and all the passengers die in a tragic, fiery accident just like in tideland. So all in all, successfully fantastic and wonderful birthday, avoiding all blues and saddness over being over thirty. Once I get my room settled i'll be sure to send along photos and updates...otherwise, i've updated my scrapbook with plenty of foolish pictures of myself to keep y'all satiated for awhile, so a big...THANKS FOR ALL MY STUFF!!!!

Plus, it's a second chance to see my favorite boys play as well...what could be better! Everyone should check these guys out...they had me at "Rocket Roll".
                           http://www.myspace.com/thephenomenauts

I am a normal girl who likes to just watch Jonathan Rhys Meyers, he's man pretty and it's hard to deny that. While the show's first episode reminded me more of a baudy romance novel, i'm just sort of sitting on the couch with the cats thinking..that man can do no wrong. And to top it all off, i'm reading a book called "Fools, Maryrs and Traitors" by Lacey Baldwin Smith and it's contents are agreeing with the historical facts in the show. I love the book, and am soaking it up daily (the chapter on Socrates was like a treat)
so to see it cooberate is sort of cementing the Thomas Moore chapter in my minds eye. I had a few Professors attempt to relate the schism between the Catholic church and the Protestant church to me before and sort of understood it..but now, i'll just picture Sam Neil and Jonathan Rhys Meyers and all will be right with the world.
Otherwise, I still don't have any set in stone dates for the art thingy..i'm still mostly just confused about the details of it. But as soon as I get a good idea of the details and all that, i'll let everyone know... . Also, im considering going for my usual hair cut tomorrow and telling that Leslie that It needs to be short again...i'm a little more than just slightly annoyed by the length it's at...I feel as though i'm in post hippy stage, with a touch of the David Cassidy today considering that not only are my roots showing but my color is fading to more of a dirty dusky color. Gross! I've been knitting up a storm and also finally finished the video game Okami last night which has become my absolute favorite all time game. It's just right in tone, characters, colors and pace. None of the monsters are all that difficult as long as you follow all the clues and work out the puzzles. Absolutely beautiful and frustrating at times but perfect for anyone who's just looking for a first person game to play that involves Bamboo brushes, spirit dogs and feeding the local wildlife. When the trees burst into cherry blossom's it's so beautiful so much so that you become obsessed with getting it to happen. I just purchased the first God of War so i'm sure that that'll be a new obsession soon.
I suppose I should get back to work...damn

L

It seems that there aren't enough things in life that you can truly say inspire you to think... "Wow, people are really stupid sometimes" but this weekend I happened to see just such a sight. Apparently it's rush week, which means that the showboat society of "unique in an a-like way" girls all trot out in there uber trendy leggings and Alpha Crappa Delta whatever tee's that are deisgned to show off the eating dissorder they're proudest of at that time stand to the side of the coveted abode and watch the newest inductee wannabe's perform feats of foolish abandon to garner they're sad idea of respect. So this year, the new girls were asked to run through one of the busiest intersections while joyless denizens whizzed towards them in they're speedy SUV's. Of course, they were screaming ..and double dog of course, the boys were standing off to the sides chanting for they're favorite to "make it" across. Like gads of greyhounds vyying for the biggest piece of meat as a reward, they ran emitting they're high pitched howls to the rousing sounds of hoots and hollers by peers. Strangest of all were last years inductees who were beating tin cans of a sort harkening back to the noises that nearly sent Elizabeth Taylor off of her nut in "Suddenly Last Summer". While it's possible that these girls would be asked to procure for the other girls, is hard to tell.
The most telling of the entire spectacle were the slowest of the "pack" , the portly and heavy set were seen to drop off like flies to the sides of the street huffing and puffing and straining to watch the eyes of the ones judging with the silent resignation that they although always sheltered in the lime light of daddy's gleaming eye, they now were losers. For me, I was early for work a little disturbed by the lemming like quality of the spectacle but yet entertained. Personally, I spent that morning in the below zero weather well bundled watching the herd of ugg boots and chanel glasses race towards death and secretly hoping for one to fall under the tires of a joyless citizen of Syracuse. For myself, I kept writing the plug for the nightly news commercial that was sure to follow at eleven. "tragic accident on campus, SU student struck..more news after this.."
I laughed to myself until the security guards shut down the dog and pony show and the newbies were chosen with great glee. What was saddest of all was that not one of the girls said "hey .. .you know what.. No", even sadder still was the fact that they wanted to do it. My mp3 player was stuck on Barry Adamson and while he crooned out "Still I Rise" I was watching with half entertainment and half saddness. Life is funny stuff some times.

"Some Christians believe Jesus will come back to fix this corrupt world. Certain Jewish sects propose that the messiah will soon appear on earth for the first time. Among Muslims, many predict the legendary 12th Imam will return and bring salvation to humanity. In India, devotees of Vishnu expect the avatar Kalki to arrive on the scene and carry out a miraculous redemption. Even the Buddhists prophesy Maitreya, the chosen one who'll establish universal peace. Personally, I suspect that the whole point of our spectacularly confounding moment in history is that each of us must become our own savior. The coming year will be an excellent time, Aquarius, for you to master the art of doing just that: being your own savior. And it all starts now. (P.S. You can perform a great service by being a role model for those who haven't yet figured out how to be their own saviors.) "

Where in Rob Bresny's plan for the next year is my time to knit? I ask you...what ever does this hippy mean? Does he mean that for once my internalised mantra of not overspending weekly will finally sink in and allow my crippled account to heal and mend? Gawd let's hope so. I guess, my upcoming christmas dream is to stop sinking into credit debt, take my vitamins on time, and learn to make my bed. That might be a nice and quirky change for the better considering that after I've gotten out of bed it looks as though a gaggle of ninja were having trouble learning how to square dance in it. Who knows, maybe I thrash in my sleep.
Otherwise, I guess that my hopes and aspirations are to stay at least the same...i'm doing alright, my life is good just the way that it is and work is no more complex than I make it myself...who could ask for anything more.
My familly is supportive and awesome and I get the impression more often than not that they love me so that's right where it should be. Hmm...Rob I don't need to be a personal savior.
That Hippy is full of shit.
L
Happy Holidays everyone!

I think that at the time I had the view point that if it wasn't Morrissey it was crap..and well not much really has changed because I still very dearly love the man but i sort of learned to appreciate the gravity of the live Nails concert. It's where I was swayed after so many dance club nights where I was disgusted by the gyrations of portly lads and lasses to "closer"...although the song live is so much more.
In short...that Trent Reznor shakes his butt during "slipping away" and it's fucking dreamy.

"there is no place I can go, there is no way I can hide..."
L
